Joseph “Joe” Ketterbaugh, a Macon native and 1970 graduate of Mercer University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been supporting organizations like Mercer for years. He enjoys giving to charitable organizations that make significant contributions in the lives of others, and he believes that is exactly what Mercer is doing.

Having spent more than 45 years of his career in the bioengineering field, Ketterbaugh is impressed with the University’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities and research opportunities for students interested in science and engineering.

With the majority of his financial assets accumulated in retirement accounts, Ketterbaugh chose to name Mercer as a beneficiary of his individual retirement account (IRA). He committed a portion of his retirement assets to support the construction of the Spearman C. Godsey Science Center, the largest academic facility project in the University’s history. Ketterbaugh also makes annual contributions to Mercer using the required minimum distribution (RMD) from his IRA.

“A Mercer education has meant a lot to me over my career, and I want to leave a lasting legacy that will help other students have the same educational opportunities I had and ensure Mercer continues to develop as an institution of higher education,” said Ketterbaugh.

By naming Mercer as an IRA beneficiary, Ketterbaugh will continue to impact the University and its students well beyond his lifetime.
