Steve and Paula Rosenbloom Give Back in Gratitude with IRA QCDs

For Steve Rosenbloom, CLAS ’75, and his wife Paula, supporting Mercer University is rooted in gratitude for the experiences that Mercer provided both Steve and their family.
Steve came to Mercer after beginning college elsewhere, joining several friends from his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. He earned his degree in economics and built a successful career that included 20 years with Merrill Lynch and later ownership of a business valuation company in Jacksonville. Just as important as his education were the friendships he formed at Mercer, many of which have lasted throughout his life.
Years later, the Rosenblooms’ ties to the University grew even stronger when their son, Steve Jr., also attended Mercer. Steve and Paula were impressed with their son’s Mercer experience, adding another generation to the family’s connection with the University.
After a friend and fellow alumnus encouraged Steve to become more involved in supporting Mercer, he and Paula built relationships with members of the University community. Today they use qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) from their IRAs as one way to make a meaningful difference while also taking advantage of the potential tax benefits of giving directly from an IRA.
Steve hopes other alumni and friends will consider what Mercer has meant in their own lives and find a way to give that is meaningful to them. “If you have the ability to help, please step up and do it,” he said. “Go Bears!”
